Thursday Nov. 9th, 2017 (during school hours)
Roosevelt Lower Campus

The Roosevelt PTA is proud to introduce a new fundraiser this year, the Rockin’ Jog-a-thon, to replace our annual chocolate sales. This is a change for our school, but a deeply positive one worth explaining.

At the final PTA meeting last year, our 7th graders gave a presentation detailing research they had done regarding World’s Finest Chocolate. They discovered that World’s Finest Chocolate sources some of their cocoa from farms associated with child slave labor. Despite a campaign by the human rights organization Global Exchange, World’s Finest has refused to adopt fair trade practices. The PTA was disturbed to learn this and was moved to action. We were determined to come up with a great new way to raise the necessary funds to provide all of Roosevelt’s students with enrichment programs, both new and continuing. We know there were many families who put a lot of effort into chocolate sales and we sincerely hope that our new fundraiser will be embraced by the Roosevelt parent community and become a special annual event.

Our Jog-A-Thon promotes a healthy lifestyle and will also incorporate music and art. Students will collect donations from family and friends and then Nov 9th its time to run! Each class will go down to the field to enjoy a live DJ, crazy mascots, friendly competition, and snacks. Middle school will have a color run! Prizes will be awarded for top fundraisers and top lap runners.
